Needed a simple tool to manually clean my 3D printer's nozzle. Boogers can accumulate during purging, or during prints with multiple filament changes. And on some projects, before a print, I heat up and scrub the nozzle & sock clean before applying no-stick PTFE.
So I stole from Amyrillis on Printables the idea of simply using a Bambu Lab A1 silicone wiping pad mounted on a handle.
The handle was designed to present a very low profile behind the pad so it could still reach under the nozzle even when it is parked above the H2S poop chute.
To clean the nozzle during a print just hit pause: the P1S will lower the bed down, providing easy access, while instead the H2S parks the head above the chute.
The Fusion 360 CAD, STEP and 3MF files are on Github
Happy booger-free printing to all !
2 months update: it saved a handful of prints when the nozzle developed boogers that typically ruin some of my P1S & H2S prints, especially during color swaps or ironing. Hitting pause and some quick brushing usually do the trick. So, yeah, this one is a keeper !
3 months: updated to a 2mm thinner version (A5) to facilitate cleaning the H2S nozzle when above the chute, as there's less space there than on the P1S. Works on both.
Fusion 360 model:
Print settings, on a P1S
- PLA or ABS, 0.08mm layer height, 0.4mm nozzle
- 4 walls, 8 top layers, 8 bottom
- 35% adaptive cubic infill
- Ironing on Top Surfaces, 16% flow
- 40' print time, 8 grams
When done, stick a Bambu Lab A1 silicone wiping pad in the recessed area.
And tada, with that we got a toothbrush for printers:
Ooooh, talking about toothbrushes: could create an attachment head instead that mounts on an electric toothbrush... Oh well, elbow grease will do for now, got other dogs to skin 🤤
